2016
The Billbergia Bennelong Bridge Run (aka BBBRun) is the dream child of two passionate runners who wanted to make a positive impact. Their vision was to organise a running event that would be all-inclusive and benefit the mental and physical well-being of the community, especially those facing physical challenges. In 2016, they formed True Sports Events, a social enterprise, to bring their dream to life. The BBBRun was born and offers today a variety of events, including a 10km run, a half marathon (new in 2024), a 2km family fun run, a 10km wheelchair race, a 500m frame running race, and a 2km race walk. This focus on the community means that the BBBRun is redefining running events.
First event - 2017
2nd event - 2018
Introduction of a 7km wheelchair racing. Wheelchair racing is a thrilling and inspiring sport that showcases the determination, strength, and resilience of athletes who use racing wheelchairs. One notable figure is Louise Sauvage, an Australian Paralympian and wheelchair racing legend.
3rd event - 2019
The BBBRun proudly leads the way in Australia by offering a new unique and inclusive event: Framerunning, designed specifically for individuals living with disabilities, including cerebral palsy. Framerunning combines athleticism, determination, and a strong sense of community spirit. At the BBBRun, we're here to push the boundaries of what is achievable.
4th event - 2020
The BBBRun: a rare 2020 running event before the Covid-19 pandemic. Amidst the challenges of 2020, the BBBRun stood out as one of the few running events on the calendar (maybe the only one!). Little did we know that it would become a cherished memory—a testament to resilience and community spirit. 2020 was also the year of the introduction of Race Walking as a new event.
2021
The Covid-19 Pandemic had a significant impact on various sporting events worldwide, including the BBBRun. Unfortunately, there were no BBBRun events held in 2021 due to the pandemic.
5th event - 2022
The BBBRun has shifted from the end of summer to the end of spring. This change provides a fresh and invigorating atmosphere for participants, allowing them to enjoy the race in the pleasant weather of spring.
6th event - 2023
Introduction of a new distance, 10km wheelchair event, enhancing the inclusivity of the race. To accomodate wheelchair racers, a special flooring was designed, allowing them to smoothly navigate the grass sections and complete the same course as the runners. This thoughtful addition made the event even more accessible and celebrated the spirit of determination and resilience.
7th event - 2024
The next BBBRun event will be on Sunday, 20th of October 2024. This year's event promises an exciting addition: the introduction of the half marathon.
